i have red spots on my scalp. it isn't itchy or flaky but it is slightly sore. i've never had a problem like this before. what do you think it is?

Clogged pores: This is possible folliculitis. An acne type eruption.  Try to avoid hair spray and serums on the scalp. Also using a sal acid shampoo might help. If the condition does not resolve see a doctor for prescription medication.

Shingles?: Please see a doctor. It sounds like you may have shingles, and medicines can reduce symptom duration and prevent complications. You may have a bacterial infection called impetigo. This would require a special prescription ointment. Only a medical provider can tell you for sure.

A few causes: Itchy scalp spots can be many things.  I would try some anti-dandruff shampoo 3-5 time per week for a couple weeks, and if that doesn't help, then see a doctor.  Sometimes, this kind of problem needs a doctors evaluation.  Other things this could be include tinea capitis (fungal infection), psoriasis, discoid lupus, lichen planopilaris, early alopecia areata among many others.  Get it checked out.

Psoriasis: It is probably psoriasis but like with any lesion you would need to have it examined as certain cancers can present this way.

See dermatologist: This does not represent ms, but certainly could be a reaction to your meds, as some ms drugs can be immunosuppressants and create an infection susceptibility.  Have this diagnosed and treated and reassess your current med approach.

See a dermatologist: Meanwhile get in the shower every day with a dandruff shampoo. There are many. Tar, salicylic acid, selenium sulfide, ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione are all useful. You might try to wet your scalp with a few drops of water, then apply a few drops of shampoo and wait a few minutes to hours before your shower.You can rub in some liquid cortisone after.

Folliculitis: These are typical symptoms for folliculitis (hair follicle infection or inflammation) due to shaving. Best to see a doctor for confirmation. You can expect him or her to recommend that you stop shaving at least for a few weeks. And if the problem returns, you may need to not shave at all, or switch to a hair removal cream. Good luck.
