im currently on probation and i have a hard time sleeping sometimes, my grandma gave me a whole bottle of prescription tizanidine 4mg, would that show up on my monthly urine test? my wife told me no because it wasnt a narcotic?

: Unlikely, but.... This med is not a controlled substance and not likely to show up on any routine screening. However, using a prescription medication when it is not prescribed for you may get you in trouble with some authorities if they find out. It also has a potential to trigger addiction. You may want to discuss its use with your doc.

c-12 to c-15 got stuck, had d.o pop them back in place today. then i got tizanidine prescribed for every 8 hrs. i still hurt. is this a good treatment?

C12 to C15?: I'm not sure what you mean by this.  There is no c-12 or c-15.  There are seven cervical vertebrae, 12 thoracic vertebrae and 5 lumbar vertebrae.

Tizanidine is a good muscle relaxant, but i'm not a big fan of any muscle relaxants for my patients.

No: "Mechanism of action. Tizanidine is a central alpha-2-adrenergic receptor agonist and presumably reduces spasticity by increasing presynaptic inhibition of motor neurons. The effects of tizanidine are greatest on polysynaptic pathways."
That is not an narcotic/opiate

Class C: This medication is a class c medication which means that it may be harmful but there aren't sufficient human studies to say for sure.  I would check with your wife or girlfriend's neurologist, as they prescribe this medication most frequently.

: Headaches and migraines are not listed as side effects according to the manufacturer. However, everyone may process medications differently. If the symptoms are proximal to taking the medication, you should discuss this with the prescribing provider

Equivalent: they are both muscle relaxants of equivalent efficacy and strength.

No: There are some blod dyscrasias but no known blood thinng properties. But if you are having a problem be sure there is no a drug interaction that tizanidine could be cusing another drugs to exhibit blood thinning effcts.

how is zanaflex (tizanidine) different than flexeril?

Several ways: Both medications are muscle relaxants. Zanaflex is the brand name for tizanidine. Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) is the brand name for cyclobenzaprine. Neither of these medications truly relaxes the muscle. They work on the central nervous system (brain and/or spinal cord) to create 'relaxation' of the muscle. As a result , the common side effect of drowsiness can be problematic.
