no: No, it is a synthetic progestin.   My preference is always bioidenticals.

Accepted Answer

See below...: If the Mirena (levonorgestrel) fell out, there is no delay to resumption of your cycles.  When you got your first period would depend on where you are in your cycle.  Even with the iud in place, there are almost no hormones measurable in your blood stream.

Accepted Answer

Unusual: It's more common with combination hormones, especially with the higher dose pills, and of course in pregnancy. I've not seen it with Mirena (levonorgestrel) since the amount of  systemic hormone (amount in your body's circulation) is very small.  Make sure you're not pregnant and check with your Doc if you notice more darkening pigmentation.  Take care.

Accepted Answer

Not recommended: No, because it has no other chemicals like copper, hormones, etc, it will not really work to prevent fertilization.  More worrisome, if fertilization and implantation occurs, the risk of an ectopic pregnancy is high.  And, if a normal uterine pregnancy occurs, the iud will need to be removed and it is highly likely to cause an abortion.

i've had a mirena (levonorgestrel) iud and have had it for 4 years now. are there side effects from the hormones released from the iud?

Accepted Answer

Very few: There have been patient reports of mood shifts, and wt gain but these are rare reports.  The vast majority of patients have had no adverse reports.  The more serious concerns, like uterine perforation, usually happen before 4 years and are also unusual.

6 weeks ago, i received the mirena, (levonorgestrel) i have been having terrible hormone skin break outs on my face, will this continue for much longer?

Accepted Answer

Mirena (levonorgestrel): There is a small amount of levonorgestrel implanted in the IUD which is there to decrease bleeding and decrease cramping during menses.  The IUD will let out small amounts of this progesterone for the next 5 years.  This MAY mean you will have acne during the entire time.  It is also possible that your body will regulate hormone secretion after a few months and this will resolve. Talk to your doc

Correct: Mirena (levonorgestrel) secretes a low dose of Progesterone that basically triggers a local effect on the endometrial lining inside the uterus and in the cervical mucous.

Hormones: Do not make your own changes but see your gynecologist.
You should also make an appointment to see a Psychologist regarding your emotional issues.

I would encourage: You to consult with your gynecologist to assess further. If addressing from this angle isn't successful, a behavioral health referral would be a good next step.

i had unprotected sex about 8 days ago and in the past 3 days i've gained 6 pounds i have the mirena (levonorgestrel) without hormones so i know that's not it. preg?
