Efficacy of Plan B: Plan B pills contain a high dose of the active ingredient Levonorgestrel, which is a second generation progestin.  Progestins, just like natural Progesterone cause the uterine endometrium to slough thus causing a period.  It works mainly by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary.
It is possible that it may also work by preventing fertilization of an egg and its attachment to the uterus.

: Am not aware of any problems with plan B based on body type, or weight, the answer is yes, suggest you look at product insert and discuss with your Gynecologist if any doubt exists.

Well the issue: is that Plan B is used to prevent/ delay the ovary from releasing an egg.  If the egg was already released - than it is too late to prevent that.

Yes: Plan b is effective in case you had unprotected sex.

Accepted Answer

Yes: It is still effective and must be used within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.  Expect that it will cause some breakthrough bleeding and a delay in your next cycle.  Also, check a pregnancy test in about 2 weeks.

very confused. i have done lots of research on plan b one step and keep getting mixed answers. is plan b effective during and after ovulation or not?

Yes: It is, but it is not a great method of birth control which is why they call it plan B and not plan A.  If you need to take it then do it as soon as you can, but you're best off after that seeing your doctor for birth control.

: Usually. Conception can occur during any day of a womans cycle including menses. It is uncommon close to menses, but it does occur in some. Plan B creates a uterine environment that makes conception and implantation quite difficult.

If within 72 hours: Plan B should be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, and the sooner the better, regardless of where you are in your cycle. You should still have your next period at the usual time or within a week of the usual timing.

No: It is designed to be used after the sexual event, not prior to it.

Could be: If your talking like not long after 72 hours.  You could try it up to 4-5 days, it won't cause a birth defect or an abortion, it changes the uterine lining to avoid implantation.
