Big difference: Novolin has become synonimus with nph novolin insulin, though novolin is just a brand name, you also have novolin regular Insulin or novolin-r, so you have to be careful. Novolog 70 /30 is a combination of 70% nph and 30% NovoLog (fast acting insulin) therefore the action of both insulins is very different.

No Would Avoid: I would discuss this with your prescribing physician. However, Novolin Insulin and Regular Insulin have been known to precipitate in catheters possibly affecting administration. This could prevent you from receiving an appropriate doseage. For this reason, I would discuss it's use in your pump with your PCP or your Endocrinologist before using.

Q: which form of humalin insulin should i use if i am currently using novolog?

Humulin (insulin) R: If you want to switch from NovoLog to humulin insulin, you would want to choose the Humulin R version (rather than the n version).

Don't use: If medicine smells bad or unusually strong then it may be contaminated. Check the expiration date and see if there is a number on the pen or vial were you can report this.

Once removed from the refrigerator, opened/unopened vials can be stored at room temp or refrigerator and discard after 28 days, opened pens/cartridges should be stored at room temp discard in 14 days regardless. For external pump reservoir discard in 6 days. Novolog should not be used if it had been frozen.

Different categories: Novolin is the brand name given to all human insulins made by novo nordisk. Under this brand are specific types of Insulin such as regular, nph, and 70/30. Novolog Insulin is a synthetic recombinant  Insulin that is very rapid acting. I often get this question because NovoLog is more expensive than any of the novolins.  However, they cannot be substituted for each other.
