You would be sleepy: Hydroxyzine HCl when marketed as Atarax was studied in patients with chronic urticaria at gradually increasing doses up to 100 mg every 6 hours. I've used it at single night doses of 400 mg in severe urticaria. Hydroxyzine Pamoate(Vistaril) was used as a mild antidepressant at higher doses. I would not recommend that you use 750 mg intentionally since there are better less sedating antihistamines.

Same: The HCl may taste better. Sedating antihistamine useful as tranquilizer and to reduce nausea. Use to relieve itch is valid only if treating hives. Treating any other itch is a sedative only. Just a little: The active ingredient, hydroxyzine is the same in both formualtions, though the salt, pamoate or hydrochloride (hcl), to which it is attached is different. The pamoate comes as a capsule and the hydrochloride is a tablet. The release mechanism into the body is different between the two and therefore one may work better than the other for certain individuals.

He'll be fine: A one time dose at that level is not anything to be worried about. You wouldn't want to do it every day, but this is a very safe medicine, and other than he may be a bit drowsy tonight, it isn't going to be a problem. Have a good evening and don't worry about it.
