Not especially: At least in most people, and if used as directed.  It is not really 'gum' in the usual sense - the stuff is thicker and more viscous than usual gum, so it's harder to chew, and TMJ (jaw) pain and headaches can happen, as well as the stuff pulling out loose fillings etc.  I have had a few patients replace tobacco with gum, then not be able to quit the gum. I recommend skin patches in tapering doses.

Smoking: Smoking will probably kill you, and it's a horrible, lingering death. Chewing gum traps the tars and nicotine so that they stay around longer.

Not really: Despite what your mother told you when you were a kid, swallowing gum does not harm you. It  is not digested but passes through you.  The only time it is a problem is if you swallow masses of gum at once and then there is a possibility of it blocking your digestive tract.

Can be Either: If you need stimulation of saliva due to dry mouth or can not brush after meals, gently chewing a sugarless gum may help. Gum with xylotol can reduce future decay. These are good uses of gum. Over-zealous, forceful gum chewing can cause excess wear and tear harm to the jaw joints and muscles, or can make jaw pain worse in someone with TMJ disorders.

If it is sugarless and it keeps you drinking water and not eating junk, as an internist dealing with the obesity epidemic, i'd say keep chewing!

Gum chewing: Occasional gum chewing, especially with sugarless gum is not a problem. If it's done excessively, it can cause strain on your tmjoints and facial muscles. If you already have temporomandibular joint dysfunction, it will most likely exacerbate the problem.

Gum Disease: Typical symptoms of gum disease is bad breath, bleeding painful gums, sensitivity to cold.Consult your dentist asap &get your teeth &gums checked &get necessary treatment.Maintain immaculate oral hygiene by regular brushing, flossing &tongue cleaning.Avoid sodas, &candies.Eat healthy.

Here/there is OK: Sugarless gum is probably not a bad thing..But anything in excess is not a good thing. Sugarless gum contains sorbitol...A laxitive and so excessive use may cause some stomach/intestinal upset etc...
Also, excessive chewing will strain your jaws/tmj, wear-out your teeth etc...So, moderation, rorome!
