can someone tell me if the blood in the veins is blue or red?

Dark red: The color of blood is related to the amount of oxygen in the blood - the more oxygen in the blood, the more red it appears.  If there is less oxygen in the blood, it will appear darker - but still a shade of red.  Veins carry less oxygen than arteries. So, blood inside a vein is often a dark red/maroon color. On the surface of the skin, veins can look blue due to overlying skin pigmentation.

Many factors.: Veins constantly change in size depending on many factors including level of hydration or dehydration, pulse rate, cardiac output, hot and cold environment and even skin color and texture.  Since blood is always in a dynamic(moving) state, all of the above factors can affect the size of the veins as well as the apparent color of the venous blood.

First, local measure: If the dark blue knot is not spreading and you an move your wrist in all directions without severe pain, apply frequent warm compresses to the area.  If the probllem gradually subsides, you are home free.  If it becomes more severe, you will need to be seen be your physician for an evaluation

Veins vs. clots: Blue worms that are not painful are most likely to be varicose veins.  Pain and swelling, with or without varicose veins, is more liekly to be a blood clot.  Regardless, if you have varicose veins that are painful, you should definitely get it checked out by a vein specialist.

Yes most definitely: spider veins or varicose angiomata are usually a sign of portal hypertension and liver disease, cirrhosis being the most common.  Non-alcoholic hepatosteatosis (NASH) is also gaining more popularity.

RARELY it could be due to a primary muscle disease. How blue one's veins look beneath the skin is largely determined by how close to the surface they are and how thin your skin is.Nothing in your question suggests blood clots
