Do not have to wait: Allegra (fexofenadine) is an antihistamine and does not have to be separated from antibiotics that you take. You could even take them together and it would be fine.

: Can or should. I see no negative effects using Allegra while taking an antibiotic. I have also never had any success using any form of antihistamine with a cough. Common in the 70's &amp; 80's it is rarely recommended under age 6. A little lemon juice &amp; honey is sometimes helpful.

Allegra is antihista: Allegra is an antihistamine and not an antibiotic. He/She is guessing  it is allergic but you need an evaluation - it  may be allergic or reflux or just  post nasal drip

Path toward relief: 1) Identify allergies.  Sounds like you have both year-round and seasonal sensitivities and knowing good avoidance strategies is a first step. Given the severity it is time to visit an Allergist.  2) determine if allergy is the only cause of rhinitis for you. 3) Find the right combination of medications that will work (it is there) and/or consider desensitizing immunotherapy (allergy shots)

Children : Children with persistent coughing especially at night might have a form of cough variant asthma.  These children cough instead of wheeze.  At night their airway constricts and gets smaller.  The constriction of airway coupled with the inflammatory sticky clear mucus results in compromised airway and profound often loud coughing.  She might not respond to the medications you have noted.  She might respond to medications directed at asthma such as ventolin inhalers, steroid inhalers or singulair (montelukast) (a chewable pill).  You might want to have her reevaluated by your pediatrician or family physician.  An allergy evaluation might also be helpful.  Best wishes.

Various causes: Most likely causes: post nasal drip from overwhelming allergies and/or chronic sinusitis rx with wrong antibiotic and/or relatively silent  reflux. Combination of above is likely. Suggest sinus ct, elevate head of bed (not pillows, but incr hob), GI empty at bedtime, poss. Around the clock very aggressive acid control (antigerd need be done&gt;3mos), more aggress. Antiallrgy tx incl nasal  csteroid.
