If the first attack of pancreatitis provoked (alcohol, gallstone), &amp; the cause is not addressed, then the 1st bout of acute pancreatitis can turn into chronic pancreatitis very quickly.

You need pain meds for controlling pain
common causes are alcohol abuse, gall stones, cystic fibrosis, hypercalcemia, calcific stones and others.
