Depends. : If the leak is exposed to the outside environment or to cavities that have bacteria sitting there, then yes you are and will need the leak treated immediately. Go to your ER if this is the case.

Slowly as treated: Topical antifungals may work relatively slowly but are generally quite effective in eradicating what are called "dermatophytes", or fungi which predominantly produce skin infection.  This should clear in several weeks.
