is it normal to be having constipation while taking iron tablets?

Could be: Constipation can be a side effect of taking iron supplements.  To combat this, drink plenty of fluids during the day and increase your fresh fruit and vegetable intake.  Staying hydrated and increasing the fiber in your diet usually helps.  Daily exercise can help too.  If you are still having trouble with constipation, see your doctor for other treatments that may be needed.

Allergic  to  all p.: There is a difference between allergic  to a medicine and having side effect to it . All medication has side effect and usually  if we start low and go slaw eventually  we get used to it.

Not unusual.: It's not unusual to notice changes of the color or consistency of your stool after starting an iron supplement. There are multiple types of iron supplements, some of what you may tolerate better than others. If you would continue to have issues with this, contact the doctor that prescribed this for you and see if he/she would prefer to switch it to another formulation.

mam's iron levels could be higher. however, she has a sore back, just off morphine patches. iron tablets have previously  results in constipation.

Add fiber: take the iron pill with a glass of benefiber or metamucil.  morphine is constipating too

Iron/ constipation: Iron can make you constipated and females in child bearing years can be iron deficient. But chronic disease like crohns, celiac, food intolerances,autoimmune disease( lupus,RA) ,diet , intestinal worms can make you deficient as well . Bloating can be constipation  or intolerances,infection or from ovaries./uterus High fiber, lots of fluids , F/U with  doctor urgent care

Many: Iron only help if you are iron deficient, but anemia can be due to many reasons, you need to see your doctor for a full work up. Also note it takes more rhan a week to start improving if you just started iron., and your problem is iron def, also depends on if you are taking the right dose, normal absorbtion etc, also it is very important to find out why you are low in iron if that the real proble.

Not likely: Unlikely that iron is the cause of irregularity of periods.  More likely stress, heavy exercise, dieting for weight loss, etc.  If no other symptoms, keep menstrual calendar for the next three months(so you can talk about specifics), if still not "normal for you" discuss with your health care provider.
