Minimal: This is one of those formerly prescription only drugs with such a low toxicity and side effect profile that it has been released by the fda for over the counter sale.  It can be effective for GI problems and hopefully is working for you.  The GI issues are far more of a problem than any side effects.

No: Alka seltzer is generally used for heartburn and indigestion.  Imodium (loperamide) is generally used for diarrhea.

Probably ok: It is likely ok for people with chronic diarrhea. Obviously too high a dose may lead to constipation instead.  Glad that this works for you.

Yes, maybe: Anti-diarrheal drugs are helpful in chemotherapy induced diarrhea. However, need to be sure that the diarrhea is from chemotherapy and not infectious -- such as clostridium difficile toxin (cdt) induced diarrhea. Cdt pcr can detect. In that case the bodies natural reaction is to get rid of the toxin by voiding with diarrhea. That diarrhea needs antibiotics for a potentially prolonged time.

Can...: Imodium (loperamide) is an over-the-counter medication used for treatment of diarrhea. It should be used as needed, its use limited and not continued once bowel movements have normalized. By virtue of its constipation effects, Imodium (loperamide) can cause constipation, which in turn can sometimes be associated with low back pain. If symptoms persist despite cessation of imodium, (loperamide) consultation with your dr. Is recommended.

last two months, stool change. soft stools with some mucous, urgent need to go. go 2-3 in morning. some pain, advil quells. took imodium, (loperamide) haven't gone for two days. puffy left side of belly button.

See a doctor: The sudden lack of stool and pain with swelling of the belly could be a serious problem. Go to an ER.

Overdue: Med isn't working.  Stop trying to self-medicate.  See GP or Gastroenterologist immediately.  Your body is telling you something's wrong.  Listen to it.

took dulcolax at 8 pm last night hoping it would work overnight.  have an event today so took imodium (loperamide) ad at 5 am (9 hrs later). is this safe?

Stool: My concern here is why take a strong laxative at night,then a anti-motility the next morning. This a setup for chronic issues. If it is a chronic problem,see your primary care doctor for assistance.

It's ok: There should be no interactions between fluconazole and either of these over-the-counter medicines. If you had to choose, I would use Imodium (loperamide) rather than Pepto-Bismol, since it tends to be more effective for diarrhea. If you're having diarrhea, be sure to increase your fluid intake to avoid dehydration. Contact your doctor if it persists. Good luck.
