If no medical cause is found, then one can add weight by eating more calories of nutritious foods, while also doing weight-training to increase muscle. Proteins: egg white, chicken breast, salmon, ...  Better fats: olive oil, peanuts, almonds, tofu, ....

Foods to help w weight gain: almonds, cashews, pecans, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, walnuts, hummus, avocados, granola, trail mix, dried fruits, protein shakes &amp; bars, lean meats, poultry, fish &amp; smoothies.

Hmmm: Difficulty gaining weight or maintaining weight could be due to many things.overactive thyroid could do it. Malabsorption of nutrients could be an issue especially in someone with GI symptoms like gas and bloating. Consider an evaluation for celiac disease. That can be brought up to your doctor. One can also count the day to day caloric intake to see if it is related to under-eating.
