A Stitch In Time...: If he exhibits a lot of pain in that area or if he is reluctant to use that arm or if the skin feels warmer than the other arm or the swelling increases then have him examined by a doctor. Sounds like he bumped or otherwise injured that area or an infection is brewing so if you have any doubts about it, get him checked sooner than later.

Who knows!: So sorry about your son. All of his conditions you could think might cause a shorter life span for all sorts of reasons, but with good care  one never knows. Accidents, poor nutrition ( because he doesn't eat well), progressive brain deterioration if repeated seizures, infections, general stress with its harmful physical effects, all could contribute to premature death. Very: There is no "official" age at which the diagnosis can be formulated, however, some of the criteria is only observable (or the lack thereof) after the kid is supposed to reach a milestone (verbal skills, etc). Review the criteria dsm4 and you will have a clear idea of why. That said, some genetic diseases ( deletions, isodicentrism, etc) associated with autistic features can be diagnosed at any age.

Maternal low  folate (folic acid) levels at conception, rubella, "flu", obesity, advanced age &amp; alcohol/drug use from 3 wks.post-conception-term are some epigenetic factors that alter function, but not structure or sequence, of fetal genes &amp; increase risk of ASD.
