my husband and i are ttc but his penis size is much smaller. we prefer having me on top during intercourse, but will this position lower our chances of conceiving, considering his smaller penis?

Two days before: The egg does not last long, whereas sperm can be active for about 5 days. So the best shot at getting pregnant is having sex the day before ovulation.

No but falling and: dehydration can hurt you.  The most important action you can take to protect your baby when you do get pregnant is to take care of yourself. Good timing, but: If you have regular ovulations and a 28-day cycle that timing should be perfect, if either of these is not true your chances are lower. It is impossible to tell "what" your chances are without knowing more info about you (and your partner.) If 42 years is correct age, politely your chances  trying at home are not good, I recommend seeing a specialist for evaluation and help. Best wishes.

Conception: If you conceived (got pregnant) in october, then you had intercourse in october.

Depends: Conception happens when the sperm and egg combine. The timing after intercourse will depend on the timing of ovulation. You only ovulate once a month, so it would depend on when you have sex in relation to the ovulation.

No: In certain circumstances if low sperm count or something similar that may help. But in general no need.  The sperm will find their way :).

See answer: Having intercourse every 2 days during your fertile window (5 days before and day of ovulation) is considered by most as the ideal time and frequency. Chance of getting pregnant after 1 month is ~20-25%; ~50% at 5-6 months; and ~85% at one year.  Infertility may be primarily male factor (40%), female factor (40%), or both (20%). If having problems, should discuss with your ob-gyn md.

Anything is possible: It depends on the day you start counting. Usually, day 1=period start, day 14=ovulation. (how odd to only have sex on one set day a month!) if she has a week-long period, then starts counting 4 days, we are up to day 11. Sperm may be stored in cervical crypts and live 48h. If she ovulates a little early (day12 or 13), then she conceivably get pregnant!

Possible: Sperm lives for up to 5 days inside you so there is a chance that you have conceived. Congratulations!
