why would i have one hpv test be positive, and the next negative?

Couple of ways...: Possible for an hpv test to be positive in a patient with a later test being negative.  A couple of explanations:
1.  Variability in sampling:  if the first test collected cells from a warty / infected area and the second test did not sample the warty area, the tests could both be "correct".
Tests are only as good as samples.
2.  Patient's immune response may have also have cleared the infection.

What test ?: Was this a serum antibody test or something else ? The only form of genital HPV occasionally passed to babies is genital warts, caused by several strains of HPV. Passage is most common if warts are present at delivery. Other forms of genital HPV are not known to pass to newborns.

See below: HPV is a viral infection with more than 150 different strains or types. There are more than 40 HPV types that can infect the genital areas of males and females and HPV is most common STD. Most people have no signs or symptoms. Some develop genital warts and others may develop HPV-related cervical, penile, or throat cancer. The majority of HPV infections will spontaneously clear within 2 years.

Maybe: HPV has both active and inactive phases. You could have acquired HPV at some point in the past, and no longer actively shed virus to the point she gets infected. The only way to know if you were ever infected is to test you.

Maybe: HPV is a family of viruses well known for their ability to go into hibernation for decades and reappear in nearby tissue. Having a worrisome area removed by freezing may get it all, but you will still need to follow through with checkups. Cervical cancer is associated with HPV but occasionally arises with HPV negative persons. It is great you removed a worrisome area &amp; you may never have another.

No: No you don&#x27;t.but go check with doctor for abnormal cells, Most of the time, minor changes go back to normal on their own. But more serious changes can turn into cancer if they are not removed. The more serious changes are often called “precancer” because they are not yet cancer, but they can turn into cancer over time. It is important to make sure these changes do not get worse.

No: The HPV virus is always present. It may not be detected at every testing but once you have the HPV virus you have it.

pap and a hpv test together what is the differents if my hpv is negative waiting on the dr to read my pap will my pap be negative also.. nerveous?

HPV negative is good: The HPV can be very helpful. If the HPV is negative the Pap is also likely to be negative or "atypical" at worst, and nothing further need be done. There is ongoing discussion about using HPV for screening and skipping the pap, although that is not standard of care at this time.
