i suffered a head injury (concussion) a couple months ago and since then i have been craving ice. are the two related?

Pagophagia: Pagophagia is a form of the disorder pica involving the compulsive consumption of ice or iced drinks. It has been associated with iron deficiency anemia and shown to respond to iron supplementation.   Some believe   that some forms of pica may be the result of nutritional deficiency. Chewing ice may lessen pain in glossitis related to iron deficiency anemia. No association with head injury.

if i put and  ice pack on a head injury and i put pressure on it is that bad?

Accepted Answer

No: Trauma to the scalp often produces a "goose egg" swelling due to bleeding into the membranes of the scalp.  Ice and pressure will reduce the amount of bleeding.  If injury is severe, evaluation may be necessary including ct scan to look for fracture or bleeding inside the skull.  Ice and pressure will not affect the fracture or internal bleeding.  But additional evaluation would be necessary.

Unlikely: If you did not have symptoms immediately after injury you are unlikely to have long term consequences.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. 
Get HPV vaccine

Emergency Room: If you consider the injury to be severe, lost consciousness or have a severe headache, go to the Emergency Room where they can  evaluate you and depending on the magnitude of the injury and symptoms do a Head CT scan.

Medications: Frequently when a patient with a traumatic brain injury recovers he/she goes through different stages. Where he starts depends on the severity of the injury. The patients may have agitation and confusion as they improve. This is treated with medications such as valproate, seroquel, (quetiapine) inderol. This helps to calm the patient.
