i wash my face several times a day. why do i still get acne?

Acne and Washing: Acne is not due to lack of washing.
It is due to hormone changes that are affected by many things: if you are a girl/woman, it often gets worse before the menstrual period. Cettain foods tend to aggravate acne: nuts, peanut butter, chocolate; dairy products (cheese, milk) in excess, and sugary foods. While washing is beneficial, it cannot rid your face of the blemishes.

Forgive my frankness: You're sixteen now and it's time to take charge. Nobody else will help you. Acne is unrelated to diet, lifestyle, or hygiene. Go to the pharmacy and buy a tube of 5% topical benzoyl peroxide and apply it as you can tolerate up to 2x/day. If you're not clear in two weeks, pick up the phone and make your own appointment with your family physician for prescription-strength rx.

Any makeup should be gentle, and designed for sensitive skin. Your doctor can offer other treatments if this doesn't help; consider a dermatologist.

Medicine: Washing face may not be that helpful, especially if done excessively. There is a number of topical and oral preparations that may be tried to get rid of acne. Some acne are stubborn enough to have to use both. You may want to consult your primary care provider or dermatologist for the best approach in your case.

Oily skin: How much transfats and other oils are in your diet?  Good oils include coconut oil and olive oil.  Please avoid junk food and fast food.  Lots of fruits and vegetables are healthy and detoxing.  Avoid any skin product w/alcohol in it.  Peace and good health.

: The care of acne can be difficult as there are several different causes. Local Dr may be able to help or refer you to a Dermatologist.

Don't ask why: You're going to need stronger acne Rx until it remits on its own. Get with your personal physician. I trust you're using topical benzoyl peroxide and/or retinoic acid, and some added prescription Rx.  SInce you're a female (right?) you may be a candidate for adding spironolactone.
