should i see a doctor for this? i had a boil come up on my left hip. some infection came out, but now it is a huge whole. should i see a doctor for this or is there anything they can do?

If : If you have an infection with a "hole", that would typically require an antibiotic to be prescribed.  Prompt treatment will not only cure the infection, but also allow the dermatologist to culture the infection to make sure you don't have mrsa, an infection that is resistant to some antibiotics.  The dermatologist can also evaluate the lesion and hopefully give some topical treatment or other therapy (drain or lance the area) to help reduce the boil and improve you more quickly.

No.: If there is an infection, these are caused by bacteria. There are many types of bacteria. Staph aureus happens to be one of the most common organisms to infect skin and soft tissue. But, it doesn't have to be this. A wound culture taken by your doc can give you the answer, more importantly if the wound is infected you might need to be on an antibiotic or the wound drained.

Infection: Yes. A physician can examine this in person and identify it. If it is unidentifiable then a culture can be taken of the sore.  This question will be answered in person and probably not on the internet.

Needs to be drained: Drainage indicated an infected sweat gland or oil gland. If it drained a little bit, then it needs to be drained more by a bigger cut by a doctor. PLEASE GO AND SEE YOUR DOCTOR OR URGENT CARE TO GET THIS DONE.

when can i stop worrying about spreading a staph infection after a boil in the groin? when can i use my towel normally again without bleach afterward?

Decolonization: Staph aureus may colonize your nose and back of throat and then the skin surface.  You should make an attempt to reduce or eliminate this by nasal bactoban and use of a Chlorhexidine containing soap.  See your doctor about this.  The obvious question, however, is who are you trying to prevent the spread to?  If an intimate partner, they are probably already colonized.
