It can: A hysterectomy by itself involves removal of just the uterus and should not lead to these symptoms. However, if your hysterectomy also involved removal of your ovaries, you may have changes in body hair amount and pattern.

Possible causes...: One's primary care doctor can check for medical causes. If none are found, then one can see a dermatologist, especially one specializing in hair restoration (some treatments: minoxidil, etc, ...). Medical causes may include: hormonal problems (such as low thyroid), seborrhea, alopecia areata, a stressful illness. Other causes include: genetic male/female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium, etc...

Keep trying Rx: Keep working with your MD to find the right type of estrogen replacement (ERT)for you and your body. ERT comes in many "flavors" from pills to vaginal products and implants. It might be up to 6 months for your hair loss to stop once you are on the right dosages of estrogen. Have your MD also check your thyroid gland function as well as low thyroid will also cause your symptoms.

Post BSO: While the ovaries are the main source of Estrogen production other tissues in the body, such as fat which makes Estrone, make versions of Estrogen as well.   As you are 51, you are at the natural age for menopause and the cessation of E production.  Exercise (weights) and calcium supplementation will be a good complement to a healthy diet &amp; lifestyle to stave off osteoporosis.

Not menopause: What you described does not fit with symptoms of menopause. There is apparent hormonal imbalance but it needs evaluation through additional history, physical examination and likely some tests. It would by prudent to consult your gynecologist.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Lots of reasons: Go see your family doc and even get a referral to a dermatologist specializing in hair loss. First, remember that stress can lead to hair loss. Child birth & hospitalization are classic causes of stress but so is surgery. Hair eventually comes back several months later. Thyroid disease can do this too. So can too much testosterone & its derivative, dihydrotestosterone. So get tested and see derm.

Will stabilize: The hair will return over a period of 6 months but rogaine (minoxidil) could be used in interval as stimulant to hair growth. Suggest checking blood for thyroid status, as well as iron levels. These can contribute to hair loss.
