hello doc. i have develop few purplish to dark red itchy rashes on my scrotum. these becomes severe itchy when i work out or on sweating. i get good results on washing with hydrogen peroxide. but they donot go away completely. i am 32.

May be fungal/yeast: infection on the skin of the scrotum.  The groin area is a common place that fungal infections occur.  The fungus tends to grow well on areas that are warm and moist, and often itch worse when the area become more warm and moist (eg. when working out and/or sweating). : Too drying, may cause more itching. try some 1% hydrocortisone cream. Should have Rx. for prednisone and Valcyclovir

Stop using it.: First stop using hydrogen peroxide on your skin. Use only mild soap and water to wash with and rinse well. Use a moisturizer afterward and see your doctor if the rash continues.

Without : Without examining you and being able to see the rash first hand, it's difficult to say what it is and how you should treat it.

-if it is a contact dermatitis caused by an irritative substance such as poison ivy, you want to wash the area well with soap and warm water and apply hydrocortizone for the itch.  If it is spreading, worsening, or not improving after a week, you should contact your doctor for an exam and possibly stronger prescription medication.

-if it is ringworm (a fungus causing an itchy, raised circular ring), you can try using Clotrimazole cream 2 or 3 times a day for the next few weeks.  It may take 3-4 weeks to completely disappear and is contagious for the first few days you are being treated, so wear a bandage over it.

-it could also be a chronic skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis, just to name a few, which may require stronger prescription medications for treatment.

If it is not improving or if it is getting worse, the best thing to do is to call your doctor for advice.  They may want to take a look at the rash in order to diagnose and treat it properly.

Rash and open wound: Need evaluation. Could be related to sensitivity to nair and open wound could be due to injury. If injury is superficialabrasion use of topical antibiotics to the abrasion and topical steroids to the rash have helped some people

Stop irritating your: Both your "treatments" are aggravating whatever you have. First stop them and throw them in the trash.Then try a moisturizer cream or vaseline.

See doctor: This could be an allergic reaction or a fungal infection. However, it is best to consult your pediatrician to find out the cause.

why does hydrogen peroxide only bubble-up on abrasions and not your skin?

Chemical reaction: Peroxide bubbles up when it comes in contact with dead skin, bacteria, and other stuff that's present on skin abrasions. Unabraded skin doesn't have enough foreign material on it to cause that reaction.

the skin between two of my toes was ripped off and is bright red. i removed the skin flap and poured hydrogen peroxide on it. what should i do next?

See below: Apply topical antibiotic and keep covered with bandaid or dressing.  Change daily and monitor. If healing is slow or swollen, red or draining see Podiatrist.

Dont leave it on: I wouldnt soak your hand in it, otherwise, it is harmless if used to clean wounds.
