: If she was vaccinated before any exposure to these strains, she may have some protection from acquiring the warts. No vaccine is 100% protective, and no vaccine will prevent someone who had previous exposure from developing or having recurrence of these warts.

Hard to know: People who develop genital warts may test for strains. Once these are cleared from the body naturally within 2 yrs or if they are removed, they may retain the virus for life, but not shed/transfer it. If you never develop warts, you would have no reason to test. We assume you don't get or transfer warts unless you are infected &amp; these can be passed before you notice the tiny first bumps.

No: There are more than 100 types of HPV. Most can infect the mouth. However, HPV 16 is the only type associated with cancer of the throat. Even there, it's really not a serious worry. Throat cancer due to HPV 16 is rising in frequency, but still quite rare.

Public health issue: There is no limit except the number of strains that exist. But HPV is preventable, first by never coming into contact with it, secondly by being vaccinated. One need not worry about catching too many strains if one has only one sexual partner and the partner also does not have another partner. Only with multiple partners does the issue of catching many strains happen. Thus, it is preventable.

HPV is cleared...: ...by the immune system, typically over 6-18 months. HPV may persist in tissues, and the virus itself sometimes reappears to cause an abnormal pap smear, but usually does not. Infection with several strains of HPV is very common and does not affect clearance. There is nothing unusual or especially worrisome about your HPV infection compared with others.
