Swelling: Either an allergy with puffiness, or swelling from excess fluid in your system which only accumulates under the eyes after lying flat all night. It then resolves after you are seated or standing in the morning, and the fluid shifts to a more dependent area. If you sleep with your head more elevated, rather than flat, you may find this to be less of a problem.

Allergy symptoms: Capillary leakage from histamine release due to allergies cause the swelling. With chronic capillary permeability, red blood cells leak and stain the skin leaving a darker pigmented appearance. If your treatments are not working then seeing an allergist for definitive treatment should be your next step.

Possible allergies: It is possible an overnight sensitization to some allergen exposure in the evening is possible. I am assuming she is passing urine adequately and it looks normal.
If it is persistent, please have it seen.

Possibly allergic : There may be a localized allergic reaction to an insect bite, an infection of the eyelid or the lining of the eye called the conjunctivae. If you have been rubbing your eye, this may also cause swelling. Take an antihistamine and see your physician.

Headaches in am: Waking with headache is unusual and likely not caused by eyes unless vision is affected. Puffy eyes with headache in am most likely to be blood pressure related but an eye specialist can easily rule out glaucoma  as a rare possibility. Sinus and or allergy from something in bedroom such as feather pillows, dust mites etc can also be causal. Your careful observation of what may trigger these helps.

Body position: Often puffy eyes are related to excess body water. When you sleep, feet up, excess body fluid will collect where it can. The soft tissues around the eye are common. Try sleeping on more than one pillo, so your head is higher tan your feet.

Not likely : Steroid eye drops, like prednisolone acetate, are not to be used without careful eye physician supervision. Although steroidal anti-inflammatory drops are extremely potent &amp; effective at treating many ocular inflammatory conditions, they are Not routinely used for ocular allergies. Antihistamine eye drops or pills are safer and can be used more often. These may help puffiness/circles but mayB not
