...: Genital herpes can be treated with several different medications including acyclovir, Famciclovir and valacyclovir. Treatment can be offered as the outbreaks occur. But if someone has multiple frequent outbreaks, consideration can be given to suppressive therapy (i.e. Take medication daily to prevent outbreaks). Talk to your doctor about your options.

HSV: New Information: Yes. Viral shedding in herpes can be present without an outbreak.  A condom will prevent transmission if the infection of herpes is in a spot covered by the condom.  Valacyclovir will diminish the viral shedding up to about 50%, but not more than that.

Preventing Herpes.: Condoms will only protect you from herpes if the person you are sexually active with has the infection on their penis.  

This person may be contagious even when he has no sores.  If he does not know where he was infected there is no test to determine this. Only if he has sores will anyone know what part of his body could be contagious.

No, but: Daily Claritin (loratadine) should be safe to take, but i don't know if it would help ple; this is a type IV reaction, usually, which does not involve histamine release.

Herpes: Yes.  It is possible to have an outbreak of herpes during delivery even if you are on suppression therapy.  Under these circumstances, a cesarean section is often performed.

: There is no cure for hsv but there is antiviral therapy for prevention of outbreaks or to treat actual outbreaks. You can spread the infection from one part of your body by touching outbreak lesions and then touching yourself in another part of your body. Worldwide 90% of people will test positive for hsv1.

Keep him home...: He may have contracted the virus already..The incubation period is about 3-7 days (time from contact to development of disease). So, if he has been home for past week without the fever/rashes etc..Likely he does not have it. It is usually mild and often resolved in 7-10 days. If you dont want him to get it, keep him home until outbreak is over..Consult your doc..Good luck..
