Range of normal: This is not a definitive diagnosis and does fall along a spectrum. There are clear classes of excessive breast tissue in some makes that can resemble or even exceed normal female sizes. Some forms are due to underlying endocrinologic (hormone imbalance) such as thyroid  whereas others can be due to medications or drugs ( tagamet (cimetidine) or marijuana) . If you have concerns see you pediatrician/internist.

How does it WORK?: If you're in medical school, you already know that most true gynecomastia is idiopathic -- we never find the cause, and you have a duty to yourself and everybody else to get it operated, now. If you're overweight, liposuction. Penis size is inexplicable; average is 5.3" or so, if you've got 3.0 inches or more, you can satisfy most folks, smaller ones get harder and have some other advantages.

PRL not high: Hi. Your total testosterone is low, but your prolactin (PRL) is not elevated. Your LH and FSH are inappropriately normal for your low testosterone. Did you ever go through a normal puberty, or not? There are many considerations. You need to see an endocrinologist for a full evaluation.

Low hormone issue: This could be an abnormality in the production of male hormones.  See your primary care physician for an initial history and physical.  Your doc may order lab tests and send you to see a specialist (endocrinology).

Gynecomastia: Hormones cause men to get boobs.  Obesity can allow testosterone to convert into estrogen when men become too heavy.  Drugs can also cause this condition.  Even liver failure from alcoholism.  See your doctor and let him/her examine your chest.  If your breasts are enlarged it is important to try to understand why and if an option to correct it exists.

Depends on the situa: Pubertal gynecomastia will occur in 1/3 to 1/2 of males ; generally last about a year before fading.Up to 3 years is noted occasionally before disappearing. Overweight kids can appear to have it from just fat accumulation.If present after 3 years, surgical removal of the glandular tissue ; liposuction of any associated fatty tissue will do the job.There is no med that ends this.
