How to...: To lose weight insure that calories burned exceed calories consumed. Drink at least 8  - 8 ounce glasses of water per day.  Aim for at least 5 servings of vegetables and 4 servings of fruit per day. Use whole grain when possible. Avoid sodas, alcohol & junk carbohydrates. Get in a good mix of aerobic & weight lifting exercises.

In order to lose : Weight that is gained as a side effect from medications - one usually has to make a concerted effort. Eat healthfully ; be physically active. Aim for 7.5 to 8 hrs of sleep / night. Hydrate w at least 64 oz of water / day. Calories burned must &gt; calories consumed.  Do both cardio ; weight training. You can mix ; match different kinds of physical exercise. This site helps determine calories burned.

Risperdal: I would not recommend stopping the medication on your own, but talk to your prescribing doctor about other psychotropic medications with less propensity for weight gain. Good luck.

On 1200 calorie max?: A low-calorie diet speeds up weight loss. If a person eats fewer calories than he needs to live on each day, his body burns stored fuel (fat). If a person exercises more than he did before, but does NOT start eating more calories, then his body also uses stored fat. One can keep a diary of what happens when he eats+drinks no more than 1200 total calories per day, for 1 month, and see the doctor.

Weight gain: Unfortunately most psychiatric medication can result in weight gain , but weight gain depends on what we eat , how much we eat and how much we excersize . Eat fruit , vegetable , healthy  diet and excersize . Good luck.

facing problem hair lose & weight gain. have done thyroid test and result is t3-99.22, t4-3.98, tsh-20.21. what medicine i should take & for how long?

Thyroid: Those thyroid numbers do not make sense to me. The TSH is high and usually the T3 (liothyronine) and T4 are low causing the TSH to work hard to get your thyroid working properly.

Call your doctor to see if those numbers are correct. If he says yes ask for a referral to an Endocrinologist.

NO different: If your thyroid is under control and you are taking the med then there is not special way to lose weight. The tried and true process is to watch calories, restrict alcohol and exercise. Calories in versus calories out.

Portion control: As a healthy23 yo you should be able to lose weight simply by potion control. Calories in should be less than calories out. Portion control in the face of calories out should be a  easy matter. But it, s not! start with a complete medical evaluation inc. Thyroid, lab.

Possibly gain but...: About 25% of those who take zoloft (sertraline) gain 10 pounds or more, but the good news is 75% don't. The benefits may well outweigh this risk; if you are among those who gain much you can always stop. But there are also alternative treatments including counseling, 5-htp, same, st john's wort ; homeopathy; consider seeing a holistic md or nd to explore all options.
