It depends: Even among experts the notion of opiate equivalences can be considered controversial especially if one becomes overly specific.   Genetic and other contextual variable including the amount and duration all play a role.   This is not a question for you to try and figure out.  It is challenging enough for your physician!

Yes and no: a single oxycodone tablet will add some additional narcotic effect, but if the goal is to reduce dependence on opiates, taking more oxycodone goes in the opposite direction. You should have a treatment plan with parameters for how to manage your pain that your doctor and you agree to together.

Several options: You could simply reduce the dose of dosing frequency.  You could try hydrocodone or tramadol in place of oxycodone.

Accepted Answer

There is no answer: Concerning the pharmacologic treatment of pain, there really is not "better than" or "as good as". Both drugs are opioids and work by "binding" to opioid receptors in the brain.  I do not personally use Methadone as it has a very high potential for adverse problems thus a low safety profile. Some opioid receptor binders are more affective than others in some individuals.

if i am allergic to nsaids can i take oxycodone-aspirin? what are my actual options for pain relief? also allergic to acetamenophine

Accepted Answer

Depends: If your allergy is to a specific nsaid like naproxen (more rare), then yes.  If your allergy is not IgE-medicated, but rather causes hives or perhaps other side effects such as gastrointestinal discomfort, then yes. Side effects could be treated. If your allergy is to all nsaids (such as in a aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease), then no unless desensitized. See an Allergist to differentiate.

Oxycodone: Roxicodone (oxycodone) is another brand name for semisynthetic narcotic. Your gastroenterologist knows the severity of your gastric ulcers and other medications you are taking. This physician should make recommendation what pain killers will do less harm.

Safety...dose range: I would not suggest using any more than 7.5-10mg of oxycodone unless supervised increase by your PCP or pain managemt physician. Look for time release long acting low dose meds.

Percocet oxycod: Both have oxycodone so you are going from 10mg to 5mg - hence this will be less. This should not be a problem if you really do need the stronger medication.

Accepted Answer

Not recommended: Opioids do not work well clinically in migraine. Opioids should not be used in migraine because they induce rebound or medication overuse headache. See Orofacial Pain or headache specialist for migraine management.
