The : The stiffness to the knee is either a mechanical problem with the prosthesis such as overstuffing or adhesions of the vastus intermedius which is one of the four muscle segments of the quadriceps. The etiology of the problem should be identified and addressed. Laser was widely used or at least it had a big push in this country some 15 to 20 years ago. Quite candidly the australian story is a tall tale.

: You should ask your physician,a dermatologist or your surgeon who has seen your scar this question. In time this scar, if it's not a keloid, will shrink in width and become more pale.

Scar tissue: Scar tissue develops as a result of injury to affected area, infection or surgery. Performing surgery for the sake of scar removal is often time not very helpful. It's possible that the knee has been re-injured which is causing the pain. Surgical technique is the best way to reduce scar tissue but is still a literal and figurative "double edged" sword.

Skin discoloration: It is normal for you to get bruising around the knee following joint replacement.   If you are concerned about the scar itself  thats a different issue. 
Bruising will generally take 2-4 weeks to resolve as the body has to absorb the blood cells -   drinking plenty water helps. The scar may be inflammed as the sutures placed underneath are absorbed.    But any drainage or fever needs to be seen

Size?location?Cause?: It depends on the location, size and cause of the scar tissue. A small raised scar may be treated with steroid injections and pressure therapy or even excised.
