Yes: Zovirax (acyclovir) can be used to treat shingles.

False positive: IgG tests are possible.  There can be some cross-reactivity with other viral antibodies.  The definitive diagnosis of specific viruses including HSV 1, 2 and HIV is a western blot test. This also tests for antibody protein but to the specific virus. I believe getting an HSV2 western blot should be your next step. Good wishes:)

i had shingles apparently in my early 20s on my back. it was very itchy and raised. my husband then boyfriend was scratching it never got it. i also have herpes simplex virus. he never got shingles or even cold sore ever. why if highly contagious?

: Shingles is a re-activation of the virus that causes chickenpox or rarely the vaccine that prevents it. That virus hibernates in nerve roots when it finishes its first episode but returns as shingles later in some people. It is not the cold sore virus. If he had chickenpox as a kid or was vaccinated, he would be immune. Shingles exposure does not cause shingles, if vulnerable it causes chickenpox

Herpes zoster: Basic science research on varicella zoster virus (VZV, the cause of chickenpox and shingles) and on other herpes viruses may someday give answers on this, but don't hold your breath:  you should assume your infection will be lifelong. Happily, recurrent zoster/shingles is fairly uncommon, can be largely prevented by the VZV vaccine, and easily treated. It's an easy problem to live with. Good luck!

Yes: In children, the rash is mild and complete resolution usually occurs within 1-2 weeks.

See details: Oral and genital ulcers are due to herpes simplex and not zoster. These are 2 different varieties of herpes but do not cause clinical problems.
