It takes a few days: Monistat usually is effective against vaginal yeast infection, but it takes a few days. Are you certain of the diagnosis? For such serious symptoms, you should not be treating yourself without professional advice. Additional treatment may be helpful (e.g. steroid cream); and also to make sure it's not something else. For example, initial genital herpes can mimic severe yeast symptoms.

Yeast infections: If it’s your 1st possible yeast infection or you aren’t  sure if it’s yeast – see your dr. Some tx options include vaginal cream, ointment or suppository for sev. Days (7 to 14 days sometimes). Otc meds include Monistat (miconzole), vagistat-1 (tioconazole), femstat (buoconazole), Gyne-Lotrimin or mycelex( clotrimazole). Otc meds don’t work ? See your dr. S/he may order Diflucan (fluconazole) (oral antifungal).

Yes, : Monistat can be applied in vagina 3 to 7 days and  if you still have the persistent infection as well as itching , get examined by your doctor to make correct diagnosis , if it is yeast infection ; can get oral medication also, if not and there is a bacterial infection; may  need different antibiotic /treatment.
