Accepted Answer

It depends: In general, it is good to weigh the risk vs the benefit.  So, why are you getting x-rays?  If there's no good reason, then even one is too many.  If, however, a deadly process is being followed (although i cannot imagine what deadly process would be followed with x-rays), then you can have some.  Talk to the doctor who is ordering the x-rays and ask if the benefit outweighs the risk!

What r u looking at: X rays can show bony abnormalities like fractures, tumors, lung problems like pneumonia, tumors, collapse, fluid around lungs, enlarged heart, bowel obstruction, evidence of perforation, certain joint problems and a whole lot more. Ct is computerized cross sectional views: higher resolution-find more, but more radiation; sono sound wave, MRI sometimes used: no radiation. Each has strength/limits.

Not known: Term sounds incorrect. Cholelithiasis means stones or calculi in gall bladder. Entero- means of the bowel.

Probably fine...: We always like to minimize any radiation. However, if there is an underlying medical need i wouldn't think twice about it. Most x-rays expose you to relatively lower doses than ct scans and many nuclear medicine studies. A couple of x-rays in a week for a period will not harm you.

Difficult to tell: without seeing the xray.  An xray "shadow" could be anything from normal to infection to something more concerning. As they say, "A picture is worth 1000 words". Technical school: There are a number of schools such as pima which offer x-ray tech courses.  Check on line for the nearest location.  Beware of schools like devry and phoenix which are profit making institutions dying to get your money and offer little.

Could be: "haziness" in a chest x-ray can be due to multiple reasons, pneumonia being one of them. Make sure your doc explains to you what he thinks about it and his plan for you. Best to you.

??: Xrays should be obtained when the history and exam suggest there may be an xray finding. Since most pain originates from soft tissue, and soft tissues do not show up anything particular on xrays, they are not a necessary or helpful part of the evaluation.

Brief explanation: X-ray  electromagnetic radiation, much like visible light. Short wavelength transmitted through body tissues. In short, an x-ray machine transforms the kinetic (movement) energy of electrons into electromagnetic energy and thermal energy (heat).   Different parts of the human body absorb the rays at different rates. rays at different rates(bone, soft tissues, metal, air absorb differently)

X-ray: Simply, the black areas on an x-ray are where relatively higher numbers of x-rays were able to pass through the patient and hit the film and cause it to turn black. The white areas are where something was in front of the x-ray film that stopped the x-rays from reaching the film, like bone or metal.
