Can retest in 1 week: Wait. A positive pregnancy test can tell a woman that PRIOR spotting was actually implantation spotting. It can be hard to tell if a woman is pregnant because some of the symptoms seen in early pregnancy can also happen in non-pregnant women. A urine pregnancy test gives a reliable result about 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period.

Usually less than nl: Menstruation happens because the part of the ovary having released an egg stops releasing progesterone.  Pregnancy stops menstruation because the placenta release HCG and other hormones which stabilize the uterus like progesterone.  If the ovary stops early or the placenta starts late, implantation bleeding may occur, usually less than a normal period, more like staining.

Possibly: Many things can cause bleeding and spotting from pregnancy, hormonal irregularities, medical conditions, infection..... If you believe you could be pregnant, then do a pregnancy test.  If negative then repeat in 1 week.  If still having issues or in the meantime if you develop other symptoms see a doctor

BCP: As long as you are taking your bcp every day and if you forget take double the next day, your period will come on time. Bcp comes 21 or 28 days which is just vitamins on the last week. No implantation will occur if you follow your gyne 's instructions.

Tests are accurate: Today's home pregnancy tests are very accurate and not affected by foods, herbs, common illnesses, sexually transmitted diseases, vaginal spotting, or medications. A test gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (or when conception might have happened) or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a negative result may be due to testing too early, such as less than 2 weeks after conception.
