Some thoughts...: A home urine pregnancy test is very accurate by 3 weeks after sex or 1 week after missing a regular period. Pregnancy is a common cause of a missed period. If not pregnant, other causes of a late or missed period include:  excessive weight loss or weight gain, increased exercising, emotional stress, having an illness, traveling, medicines (especially birth control pills), hormonal disorders, etc.

If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections &  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Can wait a few days: A woman with regular periods can wait until her period comes.  Only if her normal, regular period doesn't come does she need to check a pregnancy test.  If her normal, regular period occurs at the expected time, then she is not pregnant. If tested less than 2 weeks after sex, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too early, and thus lead to a repeat test.
