Check ENT: Looks like you may have something else (think mono) and thus antibiotic would not help.  See ent.

Stop Biaxin (clarithromycin): And call your doctor. For a rash, stopping it will probably be enough. Remember that you are probably allergic to this drug in the future. Your doctor might want you to take a different drug in a different class for whatever she was treating.

If you get swelling of the lips or tongue or short of breath, though, i'd go to an emergency room now!

See the doctor: Let the doctor who prescribed the antibiotic take a look at this. If it is due to allergy you may want to stop the drug and substitute something different as necessary. But get this looked at professionally.

i took clarithromycin for chest infection for 4 days, my chest got cleared out but i developed tonsillitis.doctor gave me doxycycline for it as i am allergic peniccilin. next day i developed rash all over my body. which antibiotic i am allergic to?

Mgt: There are many causes of a rash, but you may have had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. If you experienced symptoms such as itchiness or wheezing, these are also symptoms of an allergic reaction.
The other causes include viral and bacterial infections. Please ask your PCP, and you may need another prescription for another antibiotic.

Identify trigger: The best treatment for allergies including those that cause rashes it to identify the trigger.  An allergist and most conventional dermatologists can assist in testing to identify that trigger.  Other treatments can include various topical ointments or creams, but that will not solve the problem.

planning a pregnancy. how long should you wait to get pregnant after being on clarithromycin? i took 2 biaxin xl pills 500 mg once daily for 10 days.

Clarithromycin: The elimination half-life of Clarithromycin was about 3 to 4 hours with 250 mg administered every 12 hours but increased to 5 to 7 hours with 500 mg administered every 8 to 12 hours.  If you wait 5 half-lives (about 20-35 hours) all the drug should essentially be gone from your body. So if you wait 2 days you should be fine.

It can: If given at appropriate doses &amp; duration its effectiveness is similar to azithromycin. The benefit of the azithromycin is its ability to be taken in a single dose, but remain in the system more than a week to kill the germ.

24 hours: It's pretty much gone in 24 hours.  Depends on issue.

40 and 15-20 hours: The half life of Metronidazole is 8 hours.  The half life of Clarithromycin is 3-4 hours.  Half life is the time for the body to eliminate and excrete 1/2 of the drug.  It is felt that a drug is completely eliminated after 5 half lives.  So 40 hours for Metronidazole and 15-20 hours for clarithromycin.

i ate biaxin 4 h pylori but vomited it, onsame day i took 1.5/2 dosage of med. i didnt havemy med 4 2 more days, after taking med i get worse abd pain?

H. pylori treatment: Clarithromycin (Biaxin) certainly can cause abdominal pain and nausea. Speak with your doctor about alternate drugs, such as azithromycin.
