Shedding for awhile: Viral shedding, or period of contagiousness, for these types of viruses can last weeks, and are shed through the upper respiratory structures.  However, since most of the shedding occurs during the time that the person is feeling very sick and febrile, let your son's behavior and overall appearance be your guide.  Most daycares and schools require a 24 hour fever free period (without medications).

: Fever is natural response of immune system to various infections. If fever is not over 101F( 38 C) it is no necessary take medication to lower it . Keep well hydrated, rest . It takes it course to recovery. If you really unwell ( short of breath, …) contact your doctor.

In the northern us, pollen seasons for trees, grass and weeds is about 6-10 weeks.  However, if a person lives in the southern us the pollen season can be many months.  Also, if a person is allergic to trees and grass, the pollen related symptoms can be over 2 months.

Mgt: The chest radiograph usually lags behind clinical improvement. If the fever is gone and she starts to improve,  follow up can be done at your PCP's office or by virtual appointment.
