Infants with d-tga only are usually discharged from the hospital less than one week following surgery. The often require medication for a few weeks after surgery. The breast bone, which is divided to perform the surgery, fully heals in 6 weeks.

Poor oxygen delivery: At birth the lungs are required for delivering oxygen to the body.  The blood normally flows from the right side of the heart to the lungs to the left side of the heart and out to the body.  With transposition, blood flows to the body from the right side of the heart without picking up oxygen in the lungs first.  Oxygenated blood in the left side goes back to the lungs.

Depends on anatomy: Goal if possible is to achieve, atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial concordance as best possible.Some transpositions of the great arteries are congenitally corrected if baby born with atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial discordance. Is it d or l tga, how many concomitant anomalies are present. If d-tga, no vsd, good valves, no coronary anomalies, good lv and rv, ASD closure and jatene best.
