: There is no cure and no treatment is needed. Adenovirus is cleared by the immune system in a week or two. If you're the same person with another question about urethral pain, keeping urine dilute by drinking lots of fluids will help. You also could try one of the many over-the-counter medications containing phenazopyridine; look for Azo or other brands.

Recommend 7 days: from the start of taking the antibiotic before engaging in sexual activities.  When you say "pretty much gone", that's not very reassuring.  Make sure you don't rush back into the activity which gave you a UTI in the first place.  If you still have symptoms, you will need a swab culture to make sure the right antibiotic was selected. Wear a condom and you will reduce your risk significantly!

Unsure: Doxycycline is often used for the treatment of urethritis.  Antibiotics such as doxycycline can effect birth control if you are on it.  I would recommend further follow up with a gynecologist or doctor

Stop Testing: If your physician has not prophylactically treated you with Azithromycin and A shot of Ceftriaxone regardless of the test results you need a new physician.  Any public health oriented or STD expert will remind you that these tests can be falsely negative. Any sexually active male with these symptoms needs to be treated.

: Herpetic urethritis usually occurs along with external penile blisters and sores; it is almost never a cause of urethritis alone. Typically it is very painful -- excrutiating, even. Even without treatment, it clears up within a couple of weeks. It is not a possible cause in cases like yours. Speak with your doctor about testing for Mycoplasma genitalium.

It is possible: One can sometimes have residual inflammation from infections that a simple nsaid may relieve, but generally, if pain and burning persist, despite treatment, then have your Doc assess for other causes.  Best wishes.

was recently given ept (400mg cefixime + 1g azith) to take to a partner for possible gon/chlamydia urethritis. this particular partner has kidney disease. would a single 400mg cefixime dose be appropriate? is renal adjustment just for longer courses?

Partner should se Dr: Your partner should see their Dr before taking any medication. Renal disease can change how certain medications are eliminated from the bloodstream and can cause many medications to stay in circulation longer due to the reduced clearance which can then lead to severe side effects. The other consideration is what other medications is your partner taking.
