Depends: Even if all the scabies mites are killed by the premethrin, itching can persist for several weeks. Persistent itching, especially if there are big bumps, sort of like mosquito bites, can be treated with a topical cortisone (steroid) cream. Usually premethrin is applied twice, about a week between applications. It has to be done right, clothes and bedding washed, contacts treated too.

Healing takes time : the itching can continue for weeks after treatment and peeling is normal. Try a calamine lotion and over the counter antihistamines such as Zyrtec or Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for the itching. Also a topical hydrocortisone cream can be helpful for itching. Vaseline can help with peeling.  Remember to repeat the treatment in about 2 weeks and treat your family members as well.

Scabies: Permethrin cream is the most commonly used prescription  treatment for scabies.  It is applied all over adult skin from neck down and left on overnight.  Repeat in 7 days.  Wash all clothes, bed linens in hot water.  Itch can last for weeks, but mites should be killed.

Usually once: Scabies is caused by a mite that burrows into the skin and lays eggs.  The eggs take a few days to hatch.  Generally one application of Permethrin cream kills the mites and eggs but occasionally a second application a week later can be used to kill any mites that hatch from eggs that survive the first treatment.  You should not use more than 2 applications.

This 5% cream may be used more than once but is generally unnecessary.  The itching may persist for a long time even after the mites have been killed.

Drug reaction: Eczema may be exacerbated by permethrin cream. Stop cream , submerse your whole body in Water for 20 min, wash all your linens, clothing, try over the counter allergy medication, and  a antihistamine at bed time, if this does not work you need to see your Dr.

It can take 3 weeks: Scabies symptoms aren't from "bites", but from the body's allergic reaction to scabies mites and their products (eggs, droppings, etc). Permethrin kills mites immediately, but it takes time for the immune system to clear the dead mites and the junk they left behind. Red bumps and itching can continue up to 3 weeks, and may even get worse for a while. Hang in there, it will clear up with time.

? type of hug ?: Scabies is a mite that burrows under the skin. Transfer between persons usually requires prolonged or intimate contact. I consider it a problem for wrestlers and spouses but not random hugs. If the hug involved an untreated but affected site it might be an issue. It is not easily passed like germs.

Yes, BUT: yes, but if one does in fact have scabies, the proper tx and use of permethrin is to applying from neck to toes over the entire body for 24 hrs...the pi's say 12 hrs, but 24 hrs is more effective and tends to prevent recurrences. FYI....one of the most classic locations of scabies is the head of the penis, but treatment should cover all of the body, etc as stated above.
