It is the most : Common effect, but occurs in fewer than 50%. Most affected get better in 2 to 4 weeks.  Inexplicabbly, 1-2% endure for months.

: Your job description could have a lot to do with your fatigue. If you are stressed out and experience anxiety than your fatigue can be explained. Also diet and exercise, lack of sleep and weight are contributing factors. A healthy lifestyle is needed.

i just finished radiation and my reticulocytes are high (33.8 % normal is 1.5 - 16.0 %) is this from radiation? what can be done for my weakness/fatigue/breathlessness?

: You did not say what you were radiated for.  Don't keep us in the dark.  But given the lack of information my first hunch is that your bone marrow was knocked for a loop and the high retics may be in response to this but speak with you team in Wi who know you. You may also be anemic and that is what is causing the weakness etc. Discuss.

Temodar (temozolomide): Unfortunately you are describing a very common side effect of this treatment.   Some people respond well to THC (the active ingredient in marijuana). It can be prescribed in pill form. Talk to your rad doc and press for active treatment.

i need external beam radiation for prostate cancer will it cause fatigue?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes; but it is fairly mild.  Most patients can continue their normal activities, including most jobs, except heavy manual labor.  You may feel like taking a nap, or getting more sleep at night than you are used to.  This gradually resolves by about 2-3 wks after radiation.

: Most often, side effects from radiation therapy begin within a few weeks after starting treatment [10]. Once radiation therapy ends, short-term side effects will mostly go away within 2 weeks.

does brachytherapy cause nausea and fatigue? several family members have had severe nausea and fatigue from external radiation. im scheduled to have brachytherapy next week, and i want to know if it will cause the same side effects?

Brachyherapy : Brachyherapy for the prostate causes very little fatigue however the medications associated with the treatment can cause some fatigue  the majority of patients continue to work and do all normal activities several days after treatment.

can i intake caffeine-containing beverages during pelvic radiation therapy? i would like to drink energy drinks or coffee to combat the fatigue.

Yes: But remember, one of the side effects of pelvic radiation therapy can be diarrhea, so keep caffeine intake moderate to avoid increasing the risk of diarrhea.
