Tremendous Incentive: After one year off cigarettes, your cardiac risk decreases is less than 1/2 of smoker, 5 years  risk of cva decreases, 10 yrs, risk of lung cancer drops to 30 to 50% and 15 yrs, cardiac risk is same as if never smoked.  Your lungs will never fully clean themselves as you say but your overall health will be greatly improved.

Varies: When one stops smoking, one is able to get out the junk that has been accumulating in the lungs over time, and lung function improves.  Any destruction done to lung tissue (e.g. Emphysema), however, is permanent.  After stopping smoking, the lungs deteriorate at a normal rate rather than the accelerated rate of active smokers, so you have done yourself a big favor by stopping smoking.

Maybe 5-8 years: It is hard to find research on that particular issue, but there are tests that a Pulmonary Specialist can perform (FEV1, lung capacity, arterial blood gases), that could check how good your lungs currently are.  For long time smokers, 10-15 years to reduce risk of lung cancer to normal population.

Should be soon: Most of the acute symptoms of smoking (cough, shortness of breath, poor exercise tolerance) should improve within the first few months, and certainly by 6 months. However, this depends on how much damage had been done previously. Very often, early one cough and bringing up lots of dark sputum happens when we quit, and this often worries folks. It is the lungs cleaning themselves up. Congrats!

It depends: The party line is that risks from having smoked go back pretty close to baseline after 6 months tobacco free.   This implies the lungs are more or less normal.  This would be particularly true at your age.

I suggest that patients continue to use a nicotine replacement for at least six months particularly if it helps them feel better.

Cannabis: I don't know what your lung condition is. Tobacco is a respiratory irritant - so stopping it's use is a step in the right direction. Regarding your teeth- that really will depend on what condition they are in.

Never too late..: Congratulations! your blood pressure will start to return towards normal within 15 minutes, your heart rate will respond within days. Your lung function can take longer to improve, it has to heal, and some of the changes may be permanent, but at your age hopefully mild. Your risk for lung cancer drops to that of the general population somewhere between 5-10 years after quitting. Hang in there!
