: STD are a wide spectrum of conditions .In the vagina the one which may lie 'dormant' is chlamydia. The rest would mot lie dormant in it for 10yrs

: Vaginal odor is generally a sign there are bacteria creating gasses as they feed on the protein &amp; sugar in vaginal fluids. This can easily be just from simple cross contamination from germs coming over from the rectum, (short distance). There are some over the counter meds available in the feminine hygiene isle of stores that may help or see your doc for a firm assessment.

 Some people have carried latent stage syphilis for decades without being aware of it. One might also not be aware of the presence of gonorrhea or herpes simplex infections (genital).

Yes and yes: "Dormant" isn't quite the right word, but gonorrhea and most other STDs can be silent, causing no symptoms. However, the tests still will detect it. Some basics: The Herpes family of viruses are well known for an ability to go dormant after their 1st infection. The H simplex virus known as a STD is not something you would have without knowing. The 1st infection is dramatic. Episodic recurrences are less so but noticeable.This &amp; other stealth STD's can be tested via blood or urine. Discuss your need with your primary doc who can  arrange testing.
