: Yes. Many (most? nearly all?) HPV infections persist in latent form, with potential for reactivation. But quite unlikely at your age or the rest of your life.

Currently : Currently there is no routine testing done on men. If you are male and you have a wart removed, it can be sent to the laboratory for analysis including hpv testing. On the otther hand if you are female, the likelihood of you carrying the hpv virus is high since you have had a condyloma. During your next routine pap smear, your doctor can include an hpv test.

Warts are from HPV.: Plantar warts are caused by human papillomaviruses; however, the strains of wart virus that infect the feet are generally different from those that are sexually transmitted, and importantly, while the types that infect the cervix / vagina / penis / scrotum / anus may cause precancerous changes and even cancer, the strains that infect the feet generally do not predispose to malignancy.

STD: HPV is a family of dozens of virus strains that includes the common skin wart. It also includes strains that are known to cause genital infections, associated with warts or cervical cancer.  These are passed by genital skin to genital skin transfer.The primary infection may have no symptoms &amp;  clear in 2 yrs but remain dormant in the tissues for life.

Yes, yes, and yes: Yes, you can have hpv for over 30+ years.  Any person who has been sexually active with another person ever in their lifetime likely has been exposed to hpv.  This is why there has been a push to get young children vaccinated before they become sexually active.  If your hpv test was negative 2 years ago but then became positive, then you likely did get infected with hpv within those 2 years.

had the leep procedure for cin3 i wasn't told what type of hpv i carry. what tests need to be done to determine type? also how do prevent spreading?

CIN 3 and HPV: High risk HPV is associated with CIN 3. The type can be identified on a follow up pap test with HPV. Current guidelines only test for HPV with an ASCUS pap result in women under 30 years of age. This probably is why you did not have an HPV result. Prevention of spread of HPV is by the use of condoms. The HPV immunization is also used to prevent the spread, but is used in the age group from 9-26.

Strains identical: The strains are the same whether you acquire HPV through oral or genital exposure. There is no "oral" specific strain.There are as many as a dozen strains associated with cancer but 16/18 account for most. Identification of other strains is limited to research labs.

Hard to know: People who develop genital warts may test for strains. Once these are cleared from the body naturally within 2 yrs or if they are removed, they may retain the virus for life, but not shed/transfer it. If you never develop warts, you would have no reason to test. We assume you don't get or transfer warts unless you are infected &amp; these can be passed before you notice the tiny first bumps.

Could be any: Any of the more than 80 different strains, many of which can affect the genitalia. One of the important reasons for use of condom protection, which in itself is also not perfect.

We do not know yet: We do not know how long it takes for some one who is carrier of hpv infection, to get cancer and how many will get cancer.Men are positive 3 times more than women for hpv infection of oral cavity.
For oral cancer there are other factors like smoking and tobacco as well.
Not all positive for HIV will get cancer.
