Nothing: Very mild leakage of a heart valve by echocahrdiogram is very common and can be seen normally. We commonly see such leakage in a high percentage of normal people involving for instatnce the tricuspid valve. So it is likely that nothing needs to be done.

Several: Make sure you are at a place where they do a lot of valve surgery. You should ask what kind of valve they will use and why. In some cases, that determines whether you will need to stay on anticoagulant medication. Can the valve be repaired rather than replaced? Especially if it is the mitral valve, sometimes a repair is preferred but not every hospital is prepared to do that surgery.

Chest pain: Better to get checked with a family history of heart problems.  Ask your local hospital or physicians to help you out in setting up a payment plans.

Probably: Msm is a sulfur compound sold to people as a supplement. It is not an fda-regulated prescription drug, so it's effects, it's quality, it's consistency, it's benefits, and it's dangers are not well studied and may be unknown. Msm is not proven to help people, and people are not proven to be missing msm. This all means that msm needs more research before it can be considered not "a bad choice".

What valve?: A stenotic mitral, tricuspid or pulmonic valve may last many years after valvuloplasty, an aortic valve usually only 6 moths. So since it was in 2001, my guess it was one of these three. Valves can also now be replaced by a similar technique, a valve sewn into a stent that is expanded into place with a valvuloplasty ballon, currently only approved for the aortic, in high risk patients for surgery.

Accepted Answer

Variable: If you are 30 now, your valve was ballooned when you were ~19.  The valve location was  not specified- most common would be either the pulmonic valve due to pulmonic stenosis or the mitral valve from mitral stenosis.   You need to have this reevaluated on a periodic basis with an echocardiogram.  It may be several more years before the valve restenoses, then may need re-plasty or valve replacement.

Seek eval: As a general rule, if you're having tremendous pain anywhere, you should try and see a doctor as soon as possible. There are many possible diagnoses and we need to identify the cause to properly treat it. Hope you feel better soon

No: Such symptoms require immediate evaluation. Similar symptoms could be due to infections  or heart failure or valvular abnormalities

Yes: Many people can have mild leaks (regurgitation) of one or more of their heart valves (aortic, mitral, tricuspid and pulmonic).  Often mild to moderate regurgitation is tolerated quite well and can be followed.  Moderate to severe regurgitation can sometimes be followed closely if the patient has no symptoms and the heart is otherwise ok, but severe leaks can lead to serious problems.

Possibly: Need to discuss individual case with cardiologist and cqrdiothoracic surgeon if there is heart involvement, and if drugs would make surgery or recovery more difficult.
