All emergency contraceptives are more effective the earlier they are used and should be taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse, within 72 hours. The first 2 are available otc by those age 15 and over  and by prescription for those under 17.

No, not at that time: A girl cannot get her normal regular period and be pregnant at the same time. However, she can get pregnant a week or two after her normal period. If she has some spotting or light bleeding that doesn't look like her normal regular period, she can check a urine pregnancy test about 3 weeks after sex (when conception might have happened) to see if she is pregnant.

Jolivette-proper use: Jolivette is a mini pill of progestin only (other pills are a combination of estrogen/progesterone)  It cannot be used as a morning after pill.  The pill must be taken over an entire 28 days to be protective against pregnancy.

Not possible, but...: If a woman has a regular normal period after sex, then she is not pregnant. If she cannot be certain that her bleeding was a normal period, then she could possibly be pregnant. A urine pregnancy test (available in stores everywhere) done 3 weeks after the last time she had sex will give the answer. Be sure to read the instructions and do the test correctly.

Do you mean...: You had sex a couple months ago, she has since had 2 normal periods, and is now late for her 3rd?  If this is what you mean, and you have not had sex since then, she's not pregnant, or at least it's very unlikely.  Women miss periods all the time . There are many reasons for a missed period - stress, polycystic ovarian syndrome, malnutrition - are a few possibilities.

Sure: Having sex... that's how couples make babies, but can be prevented with pre-planning. The "morning after" pill can alter the menstrual bleeding for the cycle in which it was taken, and sometimes the next cycle too.  One should be sure to check a home pregnancy test about 3 weeks after sex, because the pill works most of the time, but not all the time. Home urine pregnancy tests are very accurate.
