Few days to..: A percentage of people that contract herpes never have an outbreak.  Or they may become infected, and experience their first outbreak months or years after exposure.  After initial exposure, some people experience flu-like symptoms, or they may begin to notice blister formation on the mouth or genitals.  So, it varies greatly, and could be from a few days to years!

Lesions before nodes: In initial herpes, inlfamed lymph nodes almost always follow the blisters/sores, not before. Otherwise, I don't understand the sequence. Swollen nodes appeared a week after lesions, but 3 days after sex? If so, I hope sex was with the partner from whom you acquired herpes, not a new partner! I also hope you're under medical care and on treatment with acyclovir or valacyclovir. Good luck!

Slightly: But herpes can enter the skin thru minor cracks, fissures, tears and therefore washing is not enough.  First, you and your partner should be tested. Second, use condoms all the time.  Third, if your partner is positive for herpes, consider medication to reduce risk of transmission.
