Take a test: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctors office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period.  If you doubt the result you can repeat it in 1-2 days. If you were pregnant the hormone level would rise enough for detection.

Yes: If you have a blood pregnancy test done very early and it is a "qualitative" test it could be negative as it was too early.  It is also possible that you could get a positive result but not really have a true pregnancy due to very early failure of the pregnancy.  There are many possibilities so it is important to discuss this with the provider you are seeing for clarification!

I suspect: that they are asking that question if they have asked you to return. The HCG level has to reach a certain threshold to make a pregnancy test turn positive. The HCG level increases quickly when pregnant. Take care.

Maybe not: In early pregnancy, hormone levels do not always follow a clear cut pattern.  However, as a rule, your HCG levels should increase by approximately 66% in 48 hours.  Your results could be the result of a non-viable pregnancy such as a blighted ovum.  However, I would suggest you continue to have them checked, as again, it is too early to be making concrete conclusions on these 2 results.
