Great not Perfect: Used absolutely perfectly, only 2% of women a year will still get pregnant when their partners use condoms. But 18% of women get pregnant in general with condoms since condoms are often used carelessly. Use spermicide with condoms.
For latex condoms,  water-based lubricants, such as k-y jelly or astroglide are safe but oil based lubricants like petroleum jelly, damage the condom and make it leak.

Female condom: It is a loose-fitting condom that is placed into vagina prior to intercourse/sex to prevent pregnancy and std's.  There are two rings on either end so that the condom will stay in place.  They can be tricky to use, so not my favorite contraception to recommend to a patient.  Use only one kind of condom, don't use both male and female condoms at the same time--this can cause friction/tearing.

The one you will use: Sure there a variety of condom -- different shapes, sizes, colors, ribbed, lubricated etc. You pay for what you get but even the more economical brands are effective at preventing unplanned pregnancy and for protection against fluid transmitted STDs like hiv. The best condom in the world is the one you will use.

No real best: Using a condom responsibly and using it correctly is more important than the brand that is used. The bells and whistles associated with condoms do not really much besides marketing.
