Stitches: A wound can open after sutures are removed when there is more stress across the incision than the rhaling wound can withstand. Each patient is different - some take longer to heal. Different areas of the body heal at different rates as well.

Proper technique: I feel that the entire buttock should be exposed so that the injection can be properly administered in the upper outer quadrant of the gluteus muscle. With proper technique damage to underlying nerves is avoided.

Yes: Sometimes incomplete removal can allow to reoccur

i had my picc line removed this afternoon after having it for five days. my arm is achy. can i put heat or cold over the site?

You can: You could do that or some intermittent Acetaminophen (tylenol) for the discomfort.  However keep a watch to ensure no signs of a clot or infection- swelling or redness or warmth or immense difficulty moving the arm . Whenever possible keep arm elevated.

When a nerve is cut: Both the nerve and the insulation are severed
 sometimes the fibers inside the nerve break while the insulation remains intact 
 if the insulation has not been cut the end of the fiber farthest from the brain dies the end that is closest to the brain does not die after some time it may begin to heal
 new fibers may grow beneath the intact insulating tissue until reach the  muscle or skin.

i had a cyst removed friday, six stitches, on chest. site is bleeding in 2 spots. changed bandages 6 times. is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Breast or chest?: Most acute post op bleeding should have resolved by now.  Is it bright red blood or dark purple blood?  If bright red blood and not stopping and saturating dressings you should hold firm pressure and call your surgeon.

If dark, it may be old, postop blood that is draining.  This should stop once it is all out.  Either way if it has not stopped by tomorrow, see your surgeon or go to ed/urgent care.

i had a mole removed that came back abnormal junctional  nevus".  i'm going to get more skin around the site removed, mwhat dows this mean?

What is abnormal?: Junctional nevus is a benign lesion. Ask your doctor what "abnormal" means, because that's a very vague diagnosis.  The pathologist may have seen something in the specimen that s/he wasn't absolutely sure about, but s/he should be much more specific than "abnormal", and your doctor should explain why more tissue needs to be removed from a benign lesion.

i've had 10 atypical moles surgically removed,4 of them had to be removed a second time. now i have light brown spots near the removal sites. help?!

Accepted Answer

Must be examined: if these moles are recurring, call your dermatologist; however, these may be scarring from mole removal.
