It's : It's impossible to know for sure how bad the injury is without an exam and (probably) some x-rays, but in general an ankle sprain that's bad enough to cause bruising (as yours has) is bad enough to be immobilized in a splint or cast and to be non-weightbearing for several weeks.

The risk of doing nothing is that you could wind up with an ankle that is permanently unstable, so i would recommend that you see a doctor.  Going to the er will probably cost a lot more than going straight to an orthopedic surgeon on a scheduled basis.  I doubt he or she will just tell you to go with the rice method, though that will probably be part of your care.

Over exertion : as a young person, it's likely a sprain or strain that should improve with time. If your symptoms persist beyond a week or so it may be worthwhile to see your local orthopaedist.

Need more info: It sounds like you probably badly sprained your ankle. It is important to consult with your family physician who can rule out a fracture  and if not fractured give you good advice and/or medication to speed the healing.

i was rolling skating & i fell and on my foot backwards (my right foot was bent hitting my butt while i fell on my butt when my left foot was extended). i never sprained my ankle before so i dont know how it feels. its inside of my ankle that hurts?

: Given the amount of trauma I would recommend seeking medical help. X-ray might be required to access the amount of injury especially if your body weight landed on your ankle

Should be OK: I have had that happen to me. If you can still walk and you foot isn't swollen and red it will be ok in a few days. Make sure to show your parents. If you got a blister at the top it should resolve too. If it is getting worse then go to the doctor.

Skates=no arch: Roller skates and bowling shoes have no support.  I'm thinking you have a high arch foot.  You need some decent arch supports.  A podiatrist will most likely have a very affordable solution to your problem!
